Okay, I thought I might as well put a flat out price for single character drawings because I’ve gotten some ‘working by the hour may be intimidating’ remarks from my friends. These are only for single characters, no background. Now, if you’re paying attention they’re at my current $10 an hour price rate, but you know, less scary. These will stay as is until further notice. I’m also now offering sketchies. Normally I wouldn’t because I’m such a perfectionist, but as I’ve improved I feel they may hold value to someone—and, you know, they’re cheap, so yay.

* All digital color prices will not exceed the listed prices for single character commissions. If I finish early I will certainly reduce the final cost. This guide’s purpose is to give a clear idea of how my time, and your money, is spent.

Note: Because of the nature of Background work, and the mediums of Gray, Solid Fill, Digital Screentone, and Detailed Crosshatching, I cannot give an accurate estimate, and will charge by the hour accordingly.

Portrait work, multiple characters, and full out no lines digital painting are all by the hour, along with traditional pieces. Hopefully the chart above, and the times I list in my gallery give you an accurate feel for prices, but always feel free to ask me for an estimate while you’re trying to decide.

I can be creative if you want, but understand you may not like a surprise as much as your planned out idea. Also, if you prefer a digital file format, put that here.)

Reference: (This can be for characters as well as something like a really cool bracelet you want your character to be wearing, or the style you want it drawn in, a pet, etc.)

*For those who need their commission done right away, make sure you put ‘RUSH’ in the subject/header of the email/note. I check my mail daily but if I don’t see rush there’s no guarantee I’m going to actually read the request until I feel like it.

What I'll draw:
I consider myself flexible with subject matter for the most part. Violence and gore, Het, Yaoi, Yuri, historical clothing, accessories, etc.; it's all good. Reference would always be better so keep that in mind.

What I won't draw:
Mecha, full anthro, obese characters; I am not skilled in these areas, but if you're willing to deal with a time delay while I perfect such subjects for a picture than feel free to ask. I have the right to turn down any request, whether it is because of time restraints on my part or me just being uncomfortable drawing the subject matter. Don't let it keep you from asking, though. I may surprise you.

Procedure:
Having filled out the required Order Form you can commission me by noting said form to my DA account or my email: ChimaeraChan@aol.com If I accept your commission I will reply with confirmation, give an estimate of price, and any info you may need to consider. I will then add you to the bottom of my Commission List.

I work on a first come, first serve basis. If it's of valid urgency, i.e., you're printing out a pamphlet and need a graphic by the end of the week, I will make exceptions, likely with a price increase for the rush.

Once I reach you on the list I will contact you again to make sure you're still interested, and go over any questions I may have after rereading your Order Form. We'll set the price, the first half expected before I begin the commission as a down payment. Full payment is possible if you prefer. This down payment will be fully refunded if something on my end happens that keeps me from completing your commission.

I will then begin your commission. You should try to check your notes/email daily at this point; I tend to run into questions while drawing, and the faster you get back to me with the answers the faster your picture gets done. Work with me. I want to make your commission how you imagine it and I want you to love the results. I have no problem going back and changing something, but if I know exactly what you want beforehand then that's less likely to occur.

Once the picture is complete I'll show you a small watermarked copy. (I'm willing to show you my progress as I go along at your request, as well. ) When it's approved, I will wait for confirmation of payment either through PayPal (I'll email you with the bill), or check or money order sent to the specified address. Once the money is in, I'll send you the final picture. I am understanding about late payments, but I don't like them. Please make sure you set the money aside beforehand or speak with me about a payment plan so that we don't have to go into any drama.

If you have a problem with the final picture, please don't be afraid to ask for me to change it. I am more than willing to make sure you are happy with your commission. But if you've failed to mention something in the original Order Form and our discussions after, then you can't expect me to go back and start adding things without prices being upped.

The final picture will be in highest quality jpeg format, unless you specify different, i.e. gif, png, psd. If you don’t have picture-editing software such as Photoshop, I’m more than willing to send you additional copies of the picture in whatever size you like.

At the moment I am not set up for prints and will not be able to provide you with a hardcopy of your digital commission. This may change at some point in the future.

Prices
After going over the many ways artists decide their prices I’ve decided to go the route that seems most logical to me. I charge by the hour, meaning I will be keeping a strict record of my hours working on my commissions, and will be using those records as a basis for my estimates. As such, if you come to me with a set price of how much you’re willing to spend it will be up to me to tell you if it’s doable or not with the time available, and then come through. You will get exactly what you commission me to do, there will be no ticking clock adding up the price if I decide that I need a couple more hours to finish something up. The only time the set price will change is if you decide you need something new added, or a change that goes beyond reasonable limits.

Traditional Commissions

If you’re requesting a traditional piece of art done in any subject that’s not digital, along with the price of my time will be the price of the materials used, and shipping and handling costs. Material costs will be asked for up front with the down payment, and WILL NOT BE REFUNDABLE once I start on your commission.

I do not have a good estimate for traditional pieces, mostly because of the range of mediums I’m experienced in and their fickle nature, so keep that in mind when commissioning traditional pieces from me. Naturally smaller pieces will take less time, use up fewer materials, and cost less to ship. I will probably have an open-end price until the picture is complete and I can compile costs (which will be itemized with the bill)

I do my traditional work with the highest quality materials to ensure the highest quality results. I offer watercolor, pastel, graphite, charcoal, ink, marker, and mixed media. As of now I do not offer oil or acrylic works.

I will not frame or pick out frames for any traditional piece commissioned through me. I can offer suggestions if you’re desperate, but framing is not my forte and I don’t want to play with things I know little about.

PAYPAL Payments:
I've upgraded my account to accept credit card payments through Paypal, meaning I'm now charged a transaction fee of 4.9%+.30 when I take a Paypal payment. So, if this is your choice of payment, you will be charged this transaction fee. For those who've fallen asleep in math class, I'll set it up for you.

(Original Price of the Picture x 0.049) +.30 = the Transaction Fee.
Transaction Fee + Original Price= Total Cost

I'll be billing you the total cost when I email you the bill, but I thought you'd like to know what the extra change I'm charging you is for.


Important Note
Understand, although you have commissioned me to create a picture for you, I still own the rights to that picture. If I wish to post it, advertise with it, make prints and sell them, etc., I will. You may be able to buy those rights from me, but it’s very unlikely and the price will be high.

Also, although I'm making a picture for you, I do not necessarily own the rights to characters featured in the picture. If you are the original owner of the characters, you will remain so alone, and I will not lay claim to them. This will not keep me from advertising or selling copies of the picture in the future though, so if that's something that you would not like to see of your characters, I suggest you don't commission me.

So, what can you do with the picture you’ve commissioned? Pretty much anything, as long as you’re not gaining money from it. You can keep it for personal use, put it on your website as a post or graphic, use it as a graphic to advertise something, etc.

What you can’t do is sell prints of it, remove my signature from it and claim it as your own, or turn it into stickers, bookmarks, or any sort of decal for the purpose of selling. If this is your intent from the very beginning and you want the right where you can sell my graphic, talk to me and I’ll set a price and limitations. Understand this is not the same as buying my rights to the picture. It’s only buying you the ability to sell the picture as well, and only to my specifications.
